Cookie & Tracking Technology Notice

North American University (“NAU”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of our students, applicants, and visitors. This Notice explains how we use cookies, web beacons, pixels, and local storage (collectively, “Tracking Technologies”) on www.na.edu (the “Site”) and your rights regarding these technologies.

1. What Technologies Do We Use?

  • Cookies: Small text files placed on your device to identify your browser or store information.

  • Pixels & Web Beacons: Electronic tags (such as the Meta Pixel) that track user movements and help us measure the effectiveness of our outreach campaigns.

  • Local Storage: Data stored within your browser by our WordPress theme (Avada) to ensure the Site remembers your preferences (e.g., your choice to accept or reject cookies via the privacy_embeds cookie).

2. Categorization of Tracking Technologies

In accordance with “Privacy by Design” principles, all non-essential technologies remain inactive until you provide affirmative consent.

Category Purpose & Legal Basis Examples
Strictly Necessary Legal Basis: Contractual/Legitimate Interest. Essential for security, session management, and ensuring the Site functions. WordPress session logs, Avada privacy choice storage.
Analytics Legal Basis: Consent. Used to collect aggregate, de-identified data to help us improve Site performance and academic content. Google Analytics (GA4).
Marketing & Retargeting Legal Basis: Consent. Facilitates cross-device tracking to show you relevant information about NAU programs on social media. Meta (Facebook) Pixel, Google Ads Remarketing.
